Caritas Athens is a Non-Profit Organization (NGO) which has been recognized as such by the state, and is a member of Caritas Hellas (a branch of Caritas Europa and of Caritas Internationalis, the philanthropic organization of the Catholic Church, which play an active role in over 160 countries worldwide).
Established in 1978, its purpose is to combat poverty and injustice, support the marginalized and vulnerable members of society and create the necessary organs of activity in Attiki, Euboea, the Peloponnese and Mainland Greece (Sterea Hellas). Our mission is the constant support to a person, either Greek or foreign, who finds himself in need, irrespective of religious belief, nationality, gender, language or age, in an attempt to cover their material, psychological or spiritual needs.
Caritas operates in the center of Athens, with its compass being the social teachings and fundamentals of the Catholic Church. The multifaceted work requires a broad range of activities and the operation of various organized sections of activity which can respond to these needs thanks to our crew, the tireless group of volunteers, and to our heartfelt supporters, donors and sponsors, as well as our participation in national and international programs, as Caritas has no financial or material support from the state.
The activities include Refugee Program, Blood Donation, Senior Citizens, Support of the Imprisoned, Provision of Aid in Emergencies and Natural Disasters, Participation in national and international programs, Cooperation with Institutions, NGO's and the corresponding Caritas Europa & Caritas Internationalis organizations.
