ECOWEEK started its activity on the Greek isle of Aegina in 2005. ECOWEEK hosted lectures by British environmentalist Robert Swan and former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore in Athens in 2007. In that same year, ECOWEEK spread its wings throughout Greece and in 2008 expanded its activities to Cyprus and Israel.

ECOWEEK is an independent non-governmental organisation (NGO) with international activity. Its mission is to raise public environmental awareness and involvement of the public and especially young people, in environmental protection, 'green' building and initiating activities that promote Sustainability.

Today, ECOWEEK is active in Greece, Cyprus and the Middle East. ECOWEEK's founder and Chairman is Yale graduate, Ford Fellow, architect and environmental consultant Dr. Elias Messinas.
