Dentons: The Firm is recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers 2017
As the only law firm acknowledged this year, the honour recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.
Each employer is evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers in terms of: (1) the unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed; (2) the extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization's own environmental footprint; (3) the degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and (4) the extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the employer's public identity and whether they attract new people to the organization.
“With a culture of commitment to sustainability both outside and inside our offices, I am proud that our dedicated Dentons colleagues work hard to continuously mitigate the environmental impact of our activities in our communities,” said Chris Pinnington, Canada Chief Executive Officer. “By finding innovative solutions—whether working with suppliers, collaborating with clients, or sharing best practices across our more than 145 offices globally—Dentons is committed to shaping a sustainable future.”
Dentons continues to find innovative solutions to minimize the Firm’s own carbon footprint and remains committed to shaping a more sustainable future. As such, Dentons has engaged in a number of exceptional earth-friendly initiatives, including:
- Dentons supports employee-led green committees, which meet regularly and work to educate and motivate personnel on the shift towards sustainable workplace practices – the committees report to each office's Managing Partner on a quarterly basis to highlight their progress towards more sustainable operations.
- At offices across Canada, Dentons employees support numerous sustainable initiatives including a rooftop herb garden in Vancouver, indoor bicycle parking and free access to shared-use bicycles in Montréal, and energy use reduction strategies for each of the firm's office locations.
- Dentons recently hosted a "Resolution Challenge" and asked employees to track four positive habits relating to fitness, community involvement, environmental responsibility and general health – individuals with the highest scores in each category had the opportunity to win organic food, fitness and earth-friendly gifts from Mountain Equipment Co-op and the Bike Doctor, and other prizes.
