The Smile of the Child hosts the 4th annual meeting of the “Community of Practice & Knowledge” in Greece
“The Smile of the Child” hosted the 4th Annual Meeting of the Transnational Group “Community of Practice & Knowledge” from 22 to 26 May” in Athens. The group consists of organizations active in the support and empowerment of families from France, Morocco, Canada, Italy, Germany, the Philippines, Lebanon, Ireland, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Greece.
“The Smile of the Child” is member of the Community since its creation in 2014 and has participated in the three previous meetings in France, Morocco and Ireland. The purpose of the visit was to present the evolution of family from the ancient years and up-to-date.
The team of “Community of Practice & Knowledge” is coordinated by the French Organization “Apprentis d'Auteuil” which has a longstanding cooperation with “The Smile of the Child”. Both organizations will enhance their cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on topics related to training of professionals, exchange of expertise in the field of child protection and the organization of bilateral study visits with the goal to exchange good practices.
The President of “Apprentis d'Auteuil”, Mrs. Pascale Lemaire-Toquec, noted in regards to this visit and the enhancement of cooperation between the two organizations:
''We would like to thank “The Smile of the Child” so much for the warm welcome in Greece and the visit to the actions of the Organization. We have been really impressed by the humanity, the professionalism and the team spirit of all the people working for “The Smile of the Child”. The Community of Practice and Knowledge that we are part of did a great job during this week, and it has been fascinating for us to participate and assess the progress made by the group since we began in Paris. “Apprentis d’Auteuil” and “The Smile of the Child” have a lot of things to do together and we will support our existing cooperation and continue to develop it.''
The team was thoroughly informed on the actions of “The Smile of the Child” and they had the opportunity to visit one of the Daycare Homes of the Organization and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The members of the international team also visited cultural sites, which reveal the evolution of the family and enjoyed the Greek hospitality.
In addition, the multi-disciplinary team of the Greek Organization presented the principles and the scientific model of the Support Centers for Children and Families with emphasis on the holistic support to the families offered by “The Smile of the Child”. The meeting of both groups focused on the professional practices that empower families in need of support and facilitate the communication with them, as well as on issues related to the support and training of professionals.
The members of the team also focused on the vision of “The Smile of the Child”, its scientific model and methodology present in all its actions, as well as the concept of Greek Philoxenia that characterizes Greek society and culture.
