Dentons recognized as one of the 50 best law firms for women
Dentons, the global law firm, was named one of the 50 best law firms for women by Working Mother magazine in its annual "Best Law Firms for Women" report. The yearly report "celebrates law firms that are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers."
"Dentons is committed to recruiting, retaining, mentoring and advancing the careers of our talented women lawyers and professionals and we are honored to be named by Working Mother magazine as one of the 50 best law firms for women," said Peg Hall co-chair of Dentons' WomenLEAD program.
Dentons' practices in hiring, promoting and retaining women lawyers and its extensive support for women's advancement were among the key areas of strength that led to its inclusion on the "Best Law Firms for Women" list. The Firm's WomenLEAD initiative is just one example of Dentons' industry-leading commitment to the advancement of women in the profession, resulting in numerous initiatives and awards, including:
Preparing for Rain, Dentons' pilot business development program that was inspired by the Firm's award-winning participation in the Diversity Lab's Women in Law Hackathon at Stanford Law. WomenLEAD supported US CEO Mike McNamara in representing Dentons, alongside five other law firm leaders, on a team that presented a strategy for better recruitment, advancement and retention of experienced women in law firms. One of the strategies included a solutions package that addresses business development challenges women lawyers face during the "Five Year Moment," the two to three years before and following Partner admission.
For the past five years, Dentons has achieved the WILEF (Women in Law Empowerment) Gold Standard Certification.
The groundbreaking Mansfield Rule initiative was also borne of the Diversity Lab's 2016 Women in Law Hackathon. Dentons is one of only 30 firms to sign on to pilot Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule, measuring whether law firms have affirmatively considered women and attorneys of color -- minimally 30 percent of the candidate pool -- for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions and lateral positions. Signature programming: On January 24, 2018 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York, Dentons will bring together senior women in-house lawyers for the fourth annual Courageous Counsel Leadership Institute. Drawing inspiration from Courageous Counsel: Conversations with Women General Counsel in the Fortune 500, co-authored by Dentons Insurance Regulatory partner and Global Board member Kara Baysinger and Michele Mayes, General Counsel for the New York Public Library, the full-day professional leadership development event will build on our efforts to continue advancing women in legal leadership positions.
About the Working Mother Methodology
Law firms completed an extensive application in the areas of workforce profile, flexibility and development and retention of women. Best Law Firms were selected from a pool of self-selected applicant firms with 50 or more lawyers in the U.S. Statistics reported are aggregated from data provided by the firms collected from the full year of 2016.
The application includes questions about female representation, partnership, flexibility, networking, compensation, mentoring, advancement, women's initiatives, workplace culture, benefits, parental leave and childcare policies. Scoring is determined by female presence, roles, policies, programs and usage rates as reported by the participating firms.
