Development of a joint control measures Project for Central Europe by FSC

FSC is facilitating a stakeholder-driven process to develop a universal set of voluntary FSC risk-assessment control measures for Central Europe. If you are a controlled wood stakeholder concerned about strengthening the controlled wood system in this region, this is your chance to join the discussion and shape the future of controlled wood.

Why now?

There has been considerable confusion about how to implement the controlled wood standard in a robust fashion. In particular, the control measures that ensure mitigation of the risk of unacceptable material mixing with FSC-certified material have proven to be a challenge. In response, a group of industry stakeholders proposed the formation of a working group to formulate a bank of voluntary control measures that are appropriate for the region.

What does this mean for you?

Having a set of joint control measures means that the controlled wood standard will be applied more uniformly across companies and across the area that the control measures cover. This means reduced costs and assurance of uniformity for all interested parties.

To provide credible, robust, and viable control measures for the region, we need a wide variety of stakeholders to be involved in the process from the beginning. We are, therefore, asking any stakeholder who wishes to take part in developing joint regional control measures for Central Europe to contact Manu Jose Mattam ( with their name, organizational affiliation, and FSC chamber (if applicable). We will then make a selection of participants to ensure a rigorous process.
