Dentons Boekel hires Energy partner Jan Jakob Peelen
Dentons Boekel has strengthened its Energy practice with the recruitment of partner Jan Jakob Peelen. He joined the Amsterdam office from Norton Rose Fulbright on January 1, 2018.
Peelen advises on major energy and infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships (PPPs), including the development of onshore and offshore wind farms, power plants and roads. He has represented clients in some of the largest, most complex tenders in the Netherlands - providing both transaction and litigation support.
He has deep knowledge of environmental law, administrative law, property law and public procurement law. He assists construction companies in obtaining the permits and licenses required for large scale development projects in the Netherlands. He also advises clients in the chemical, healthcare and life sciences sectors on health and safety, as well as on environmental issues, such as the EU REACH regulation.
Marien Glerum, Chief Managing Officer at Dentons Boekel, commented, “Jan Jakob’s project capability will complement our recently established Energy team in the Netherlands, which includes Jurjen Bevers, who focuses on tax, David Griston, who focuses on energy M&A, and Marcel Janssen, who focuses on the financing of energy projects. Together, this team will be able to offer full scope services to our clients in the energy sector.”
“The ongoing growth of our partnership shows that our strategy for the Netherlands is working,” said Wendela Raas, Netherlands Managing Partner. “Jan Jakob is highly respected in the market and recommended by The Legal 500 for both Energy and Environment and Planning. His recruitment is further proof of the power of the Dentons brand to attract top legal talent.”
Jan Jakob Peelen commented on his appointment, “I look forward to the challenge of developing the Energy practice within the Netherlands, and I believe that Dentons’ polycentric culture will give me the freedom and flexibility to build up a successful practice. The strong international Energy and Environment practices at Dentons are key drivers for my move.”
In addition to the recent investments into the Energy practice in the Netherlands, other high profile hires in Dentons’ Europe Energy group include Daniel Vázquez in Spain, Otar Kipshidze in Georgia, Eldor Mannopov in Uzbekistan, Petr Zakoucký in Prague, and Louis Skyner in the CIS region.
