Vassiliko Cement Works was granted an honorary distinction by the Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development, for its contribution to environmental protection, through the recovery of problematic waste streams as alternative fuels, contributing to circular economy.

The event was held on April 25, 2018, at the Semeli Hotel, in Nicosia, where eleven companies were awarded.

One of the Company's main objectives is the protection of the environment through substantial environmental approach and performance. This is the reason behind the Company's systematic and responsible contribution, taking advantage of the improvement opportunities offered on a daily basis; the ultimate purpose is to create a sustainable environment and eventually a better future.

In particular, the new production line adopts the best available techniques in the cement industry sector for environmental protection, such as the use of fabric filters for dust removal from flue-gases, the equipment and mode of operation for reduced emissions of air pollutants (e.g.NOx), the equipment for reduced electricity consumption that includes vertical grinding mills and the equipment for cutting down on thermal energy consumption with joint exploitation of hot waste gases.

In addition, the new line utilizes alternative fuels substituting over 40% of the required thermal energy; as a result, natural resources are saved and greenhouse gas emissions are mitigated.

Vassiliko Cement Works remain within the framework of the policies regarding human-centered development, continuous growth with respect to the environment, modernization for quality assurance, respect to local communities through social initiatives, planning and education, focusing on safety.
