GLOBAL SUSTAIN CLUB: Roundtable on ”BIODIVERSITY”

 

The Global Sustain Club, recognizing the importance of biodiversity protection, held a special informational event for its members titled “Biodiversity” at the Beekeeping Museum on the Syngrou Estate on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

 

Participants included:

 

Mr. Dionysios Kyriakopoulos, President of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, who welcomed attendees, highlighting the significance of the Beekeeping Museum as a focal point for raising awareness on biodiversity and their initiatives for nature conservation in the region.

 

 

Ms. Loukia Kefalogianni, Deputy Regional Governor of North Athens, Region of Attica, underscored the Region’s commitment to actions for biodiversity preservation, recognizing environmental initiatives as pivotal for sustainable development and the enhancement of natural resources.

 

 

The panel discussion included the following speakers:

 

  • – Michalis Spanos, Managing Director, Global Sustain (Moderator)

 

  • – Gerasimos Monokrousos, Senior Communications & Regional Affairs Manager, Hellas Gold: In the discussion on Hellas Gold’s biodiversity management strategy, Mr. Monokrousos emphasized the need for effective public awareness strategies on environmental protection, noting challenges in communicating these initiatives and the need for public sensitivity on the issue.

 

  • – Anastasia Galatsianou, MSc Forester A.U.TH, Environmental Department, Hellas Gold: As a forester, Ms. Galatsianou discussed the importance of biodiversity in the smooth functioning of ecosystems, explaining how a forester’s expertise contributes to the sustainable management of forest resources.

 

  • – Thanos Belalidis, Partner, Sympraxis Team: Mr. Belalidis highlighted the role of collaboration between the public and private sectors in biodiversity protection, noting that partnerships serve as catalysts for implementing meaningful initiatives.

 

  • – Stelios Vaporidis, Fertilizing Products Scheme Manager, Project Development Manager in the Agri-Food Sector, TÜV Austria Hellas: Mr. Vaporidis explained biodiversity’s contribution to quality systems for sustainable development in the agri-food sector, emphasizing that biodiversity is critical for the sustainability of agricultural products.

 

  • – Petros Iliadis, Co-Founder, Communications Director, Beekeeper, Bee For Planet: Mr. Iliadis spoke on the role of beekeeping in biodiversity conservation, explaining how beekeeping not only supports the agricultural economy but also plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing ecosystems.

 

  • – Diana Fagoudi, Chief Operations Officer, We4All: Ms. Fagoudi presented We4All’s biodiversity protection initiatives, highlighting the organization’s reforestation and environmental education programs aimed at raising public awareness.

 

The event was attended by employees and senior executives from various sectors, including telecommunications, insurance services and risk management, pharmaceuticals, aviation, construction, environmental consulting and data analysis, certification, lighting and electrical equipment, industry, energy and fuel, banking, NGOs, and the automotive industry.
