HEDNO: The critical role of the Electricity Distribution Network Operators

HEDNO Chairman and CEO Mr. N. Chatziargyriou met with Mr. Dominique Ristori, Director General of DG Energy of the European Commission in Brussels. The main issue on the agenda was the upgraded role of the Electricity Distribution Network Operators as part of the Commission’s “Clean Energy for All” proposals.

Mr. Chatziargyriou was a member of the DSOs Heads delegation from across Europe (France, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Czech Republic). The delegation was received by Mr. Ristori and offered a detailed presentation of its views on the EU’s new bundle of measures relevant to the transition to clean energy.

In HEDNO’s Chairman and CEO words: “This has been a meeting of particular importance and is part of an open dialogue that stresses the decisive role of Distribution Network Operators in the successful venture of Clean Energy for All across Europe. Placement of consumers at the heart of advancements, increased RES penetration and full deployment of Smart Grids would require that Distribution Operators play an active role in such transition.”

As part of the discussion revolving around energy revolution that has been taking place these days, and the evolution of Networks, Mr. Chatziargyriou was received by Director General of DG Energy and had the opportunity to stress the need to have energy storage systems integrated and operated by the Operators and, in particular, the role of storage in the broader RES penetration on the Greek Islands.
