AB Vasilopoulos is once again at the forefront of developments in the domestic food market, with the installation of CARRIER’s revolutionary cooling system, CO2OLtec, in the new AB store in Rethymno. CO2 (carbon dioxide), a natural coolant, is being used exclusively for the first time in Greece, proving once again—in practice—the company’s efforts to reduce its ecological footprint, as well as its responsible attitude on all levels of operation.
More specifically, AB, in collaboration with Carrier Frigel Apostolou, is the first chain in the domestic retail market to reduce its energy footprint and environmental burden through innovative solutions. At the same time, the company is the first in Europe to have installed this system, which exclusively uses a natural coolant (carbon dioxide), in the southernmost area, in its brand new AB store in Rethymno.
This action comes under the broader framework of methods applied by AB to ensure efficient energy use across its network of 368 stores.
Currently, in food stores, cooling systems are by far at the very top of the list when it comes to energy consumption. Over 40% of a store’s total electricity consumption and up to 60% of its TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact) are attributed to cooling installations.
With a view to the future and driven by innovation, AB Vasilopoulos constantly invests in the upgrading of its systems. The company’s efforts to protect the environment and apply responsible practices are underlined by its new solutions and the use of contemporary methods. True to its commitment to all those who have for 77 years placed their trust in the company, AB has integrated sustainability in its daily operations.
