COSMOTE: Investing in youth with robotics and S.T.E.M

Registrations for the 2018 Pan-Hellenic Educational Robotics Competition are now open for primary, junior high and senior high schools students, organized for a fourth consecutive year by Educational Robotics, Science and Technology Non-Profit Organization WRO Hellas along with COSMOTE as strategic partner. Through sustainable development activities such as educational robotics, COSMOTE invests in children and digital skills enhancement.

“Our future is inextricably linked with technology and children have the leading role. Through technology, young people can discover new creative paths, new ways to cooperate and achieve collective goals. By engaging in activities designed to spread the educational method STEM (Science–Technology-Engineering–Mathematics), such as educational robotics, COSMOTE invests in youth and our country’s future. Our vision is to create a better world for all, through technology”, Mr. Kostas Nebis, OTE Group Chief Commercial Officer Consumer Segment stated.

Mr. Ioannis Somalakidis, President of WRO Hellas, stated about the Pan-Hellenic Educational Robotics Competition: “Every year, more and more students in Greece turn to educational robotics. Through robotics, they can understand in depth the main principles of natural sciences, mathematics, programming and team work. I invite all parents to prompt their children to engage in robotics. It is the best gift they can offer them. Our goal is for all of Greek children to get involved with technology, as per the example of other technologically advanced countries”.

Students, teachers and professors participating from the 13 Regions of Greece, will be called to design and build a complete robotic construction-model, according to the requirements of the following themes:
  • For Primary School students (aged 8-12): “Mars Colonization” & WeDo 2.0 Soccer
  • For Junior High School students (aged 13-15):  “Byzantine Empire & Communications”
  • For Senior High School students (aged 16-18): “Sustainable Growth and Entrepreneurship”
Interested teams are invited to submit their applications at www.wrohellas.gr by January 31st 2018. To date, more than 5,000 children have engaged in educational robotics competition implemented with COSMOTE as the strategic partner.

STEM educational method

Over the past 4 years, COSMOTE, as the strategic partner of the Educational Robotics, Science and Technology Non-Profit Organization WRO Hellas, implements various activities, aiming to spread STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) across the Greek educational system. Educational robotics is based on STEM: by combining science, mathematics, engineering and technology in building a complete robotic construction-model, it helps children acquire new skills, while also promoting team working, imagination and creative thinking.

Among the actions implemented in the context of the partnership between COSMOTE and WRO Hellas, is the annual Pan-Hellenic Educational Robotics Competition, for Primary, Junior High and Senior High Schools students, as well as the national stages for World Robot Olympiad, organized by WRO Hellas over the last 10 years, to qualify the Greek teams participating every year in the World Robot Olympiad™. Furthermore, COSMOTE supports the engagement of Greek teams in World Robot Olympiad, and has donated more than 350 educational robotics packs to student groups, all over Greece.

COSMOΤΕ TV is the sponsor of the competition.
