ENEL: Participated in the EU Sustainable Energy Week

  • Enel Group is already committed to reducing its own direct emissions by 80% by 2030, compared to 2017, in line with the 1.5°C goal set by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
  • Since 2015, Εnel Group has integrated the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals with its own commitments against climate change

Enel Green Power organized “Empowering Sustainable Energy”, a Sustainable Energy day digital event withing the framework of the 16th edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), which this year took place under the theme “Towards 2030: Reshaping the European Energy System”.

The two-hour event aimed to raise awareness about the need for sustainable energy to cut emissions and consisted of three different round tables: the importance of electrification as part of the Fit-for-55 package, the Just Transition and the Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy.

“The current energy scenario confirms once again the urgent need to accelerate the penetration of renewables in energy mix and to expand their use in different applications, such as mobility and heating, in order to achieve green transition and complete decarbonization,” said Aristotelis Chantavas, Head of Europe at Enel Green Power. “We, at Enel Green Power, with a total installed renewable capacity of 50 GW, are leading the energy transition to tackle climate change by embracing sustainable practices every step of the way and by enhancing the sustainable development of local communities. In the end, this is the multiplier value of sustainable energy.”

Among the topics of the third panel, where the scope of the Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy was presented and the need for such an initiative was highlighted, there was a discussion on how youth can participate in the decarbonization of the economy and society through collaborations with such organizations.
