COSMOTE donates for the tenth consecutive year New Year’s SMS profits to non profit organisations caring for children

Consistent to its traditional “custom of love”, COSMOTE once more demonstrates its concern for children all around the country, by offering for the tenth consecutive year a substantial amount of its New Year’s SMS profits to charities that care for children. Since last year the programme also includes three charities from the Greek periphery.

A total amount of EUR 310,000 was donated for 2009 to the following non profit organisations: the Association of Social Pediatrics Friends "Open Arms", the Cerebral Palsy Society, the Hellenic Society for Disabled Children (ELEPAP), the Floga Association of Parents with Children suffering from neoplasmatic diseases, the Friends of “Agios Dimitrios” Children Care Centre of Thessaloniki and the «Kipseli» Center for Children with Special Needs in Lesvos. The donations are expected to cover a wide range of activity by these organisations, such as: the development of a care centre for disabled children, support to educational and early intervention programmes in Athens and the periphery, support to preventive health campaigns in remote areas around the country and the development of a care home for children with advanced-stage illnesses. Also, for the eighth year running, COSMOTE offered the equivalent amount of corporate Christmas gifts to a children’s charity. The body selected for 2009 was the Centre for Professional Training and Rehabilitation of Preveza.

COSMOTE Corporate Affairs Director Mrs. Marilena Fatsea praised the work undertaken by the organisations in supporting children’s health and protection and mentioned: "Completing 10 years for COSMOTE’s “custom of love”, all of us are proud for the tangible results. During this time, we have supported 14 organisations, helping improve the quality of life for children throughout Greece. This is the real return on our investment, which gives us strength to continue with the same commitment in the future."

COSMOTE aims to convey to its subsidiaries the same principles, values and vision for social development and progress at all levels. In this context, similar initiatives are adopted by COSMOTE Romania as well as AMC, COSMOTE’s subsidiary in Albania. Both companies have introduced the programme for the first time this year, donating part of New Year’s SMS profits to support local non profit organisations that care for children. As part of the programme, COSMOTE Romania donated EUR 45,000 towards the development of an electronic forum for abused children, the support of a special clinic in Bucharest for children with chronic diseases as well as the participation of 70 children in educational programmes in Cluj. AMC donated part of the profits to the Albanian Children Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, towards the creation of a national medical centre for disabled children.
