Scholarships and Honorary Distinctions for the Greek Region for 8th consecutive year by COSMOTE

The dreams of 36 young people from the Greek region were supported by COSMOTE for the eighth consecutive year, through the institution of Scholarships, and grants Scholarships and Honorary Distinctions worth a total EUR 189,000 to first year University students.

COSMOTE Scholarships for the Greek Region, for the academic year 2009-2010, award ceremony was held at the Foundation of the Hellenic World, in the presence of Mrs. Thalia Dragona, the Special Secretary of the Unified Administrative Domain for Educational Planning Issues, Greek students Education and Intercultural Education, and Olympic Champion Pyrros Dimas, COSMOTE’s Corporate Social Responsibility Ambassador.

The Evaluation Committee nominated ten Scholars, from Prefectures of Achaia, Grevena, Evritania, Zakynthos, Heraklion, Kerkyra, Magnisia, Preveza, Samos and Serres, who were awarded with EUR 15,000 each. Moreover, 26 Honorary Distinctions worth EUR 1,500 each were awarded to candidates from the same areas for their distinct academic and extracurricular performance.

COSMOTE CEO, Mr. Michael Tsamaz stated during the awards that “COSMOTE Scholarships have been running for eight years. During these years, through this initiative, we have consistently supported the Greek region and we have created a conservatory of more than 250 active citizens of tomorrow. Those, who will in turn, contribute their share to society.”

Since the start of COSMOTE Scholarships in 2002 and until today, the company has awarded 81 Scholarships and 178 Honorary Distinctions, worth over EUR 1 million, having covered 100% of the Greek region.
