ΟΤΕ – COSMOTE Scholarships for the academic year 2012-2013

Οver EUR 345,000 to 46 students from 17 regions

The ΟΤΕ – COSMOTE Scholarships for the academic year 2012-2013 have been awarded today to first-year students from the Greek regions and for the first year from Attica and Thessaloniki enrolled at Higher Education Institutions. With the Scholarships institution celebrating this year its eleventh anniversary, 46 young men and women received a substantial aid for their studies, worth a total of EUR 345,328.

This year’s 20 Scholarships to students coming from the regional departments of Argolida, Arkadia, Arta, Attica, Cyclades, Euboea, Evritania, Fthiotida, Imathia, Kavala, Magnesia, Rethymno, Samos, Serres, Thesprotia, Thessaloniki, Zante were each awarded the amount of EUR 15,2801. Furthermore, 26 Honorary Distinctions worth EUR 1,5282 each were awarded by COSMOTE to applicants from the same regions who distinguished themselves for their curricular and extracurricular performance.

The established celebratory event was held at the Administrative Hall of OTE in Marousi, in the presence of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OTE Mr Michael Tsamaz and the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture & Religious Affairs Mr Thanassis Kyriazis.

Addressing the audience at the event, Mr. Tsamaz inter alia stated: “At the OTE Group we continue to support young people, despite the severity of the crisis, by increasing this year the number of Scholarships”.

Addressing the scholarship recipients and speaking to them about personal responsibility, Mr. Tsamaz said: “In Greece, we suffer from responsibility aversion. We always talk about who is to blame, but never about who will assume responsibility. And this has led us to steep paths. The greatest responsibility of each one of us is towards ourselves. To be faithful to our ideas. To set goals and to achieve them. But we need to see beyond the bounds of our individual existence and we need to participate. Because apart from individual responsibility, there is also the collective responsibility and this is what we must assume to exit the crisis. We need to set our course thinking in terms of ‘we’, as a team”.

1The total gross value of each Scholarship amounts to twenty thousand Euros (EUR 20,000). The net value following subtraction of the corresponding tax and stamp duty amounts to fifteen thousand two hundred eighty-five Eruos (EUR 15,280). This amount will be disbursed to every scholarship recipient in two  (2) equal installments.

2The total gross value of each Honorary Distinction amounts to two thousand Euros (EUR 2,000). The net value following subtraction of the corresponding tax and stamp duty amounts to one thousand five hundred twenty-eight Euros (EUR 1,528). This amount will be disbursed in a lump sum payment.

Moreover Scholarship recipients also received tablets.

Ever since the Scholarship programme was established in 2002, 126 scholarships and 257 Honorary Distinctions have been awarded in total, worth more than EUR 2 million, and have already covered Greek regions twice.
