Over half a million euros to Non-Governmental Organisations for children by ΟΤΕ and COSMOTE ‘Day of Love – Day of Inspiration’

OTE and COSMOTE delivered the total sum of EUR 550,000 to 22 NGOs taking care of children in need, at a special event that was held yesterday on the topic “Day of Love – Day of Inspiration” to honour these impactful non-profit organisations and the 2,000 volunteers working to improve the living conditions of more than 10,000 children.

Mr Michael Tsamaz, Chairman and CEO of OTE, said at the event: “Now, more than ever, we are all called to demonstrate our strength and humanity at corporate, collective and individual level. At OTE Group, we work hard so as to be able to help those in need, to create active and responsible citizens, both inside and outside the company. Because of the severity of the crisis, our contribution is not enough. Only the mobilisation of all of us can make a difference. Addressing the representatives of non-governmental organisations and volunteers, Mr Tsamaz stressed: “Today, we draw strength and inspiration from all of you who dedicate your time, energy and mainly your soul to children in need, to have a more human life. You remind us that volunteering is an act done consciously, with the best character traits that each one of us possesses as ingredients, and not only the material goods that can be our surplus”.

For fourteen years, OTE and COSMOTE have been supporting more than 35 non-governmental organisations that were granted over EUR 5,000,000 and have contributed to improving the living conditions of children in need across Greece. The sum was collected this year during the festive days as part of OTE revenues derived from calls made by its subscribers as well as from New Year’s Day SMS and MMS sent by COSMOTE subscribers.

OTE offered part of its revenues to the following NGOs:
  • “Together for Children” (Association consisted of 10 charitable organisations)
  • “MDA Hellas” (Association for the care of people with Muscular Dystrophy diseases) and
  •  “The Smile of the Child” Association.
The NGOs that received support from COSMOTE are:
  • “Anoixti Agalia” NGO Friends of Social Pediatrics
  • “Cerebral Palsy Greece”
  • “EL.E.P.A.P” Hellenic Society for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Disabled Children
  • “FLOGA” Association of Parents of Children with Cancer
  • “SKEP” Association of Social Responsibility for Children and Youngsters
  • “Lamia” Orphanage for Girls
  • “ELPIDA” Dodecanese Association of Parents and Guardians of People with Disabilities
  • “Child’s Heart” Hellenic Association for the Protection of Information and Assistance of Children with Heart Disease.
In addition, this year too, instead of Christmas corporate gifts and printed cards, OTE donated this sum to “EPSYPE”, Association for the Psychosocial Health of Children and Adolescents and to “SOS Childrens’ Villages Greece”, and COSMOTE to the “Pigi Zois” (Source of Life), Association of Parents, Children & Patients with Thalassemia, in Thessaloniki.
