Free-of-charge tests for the Farmakonisi castaways

HYGEIA and MITERA hospitals offered free-of-charge medical tests to the refugees rescued from the Farmakonisi shipwreck, who are housed at the City of Athens Homeless Shelter (KYADA). The initiative forms part of HYGEIA Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program, with the hospitals continuing to support the actions of the KYADA.

Medical tests were performed on 15 individuals in total, including a 2-year-old infant. The tests included: blood tests for contagious infectious diseases, skin tests, chest X-rays, CBC, comprehensive biochemical tests and physical exams.

The refugees also had consultations with physicians of various specialties at HYGEIA and MITERA hospitals, including Internists, Dermatologists, Otolaryngologists, Orthognathic Surgeons, Ophthalmologists, Pulmonologists and Pediatricians.

Commenting on the initiative, HYGEIA Group’s CEO, Ms Areti Souvatzoglou, noted, “We could not but respond with sensitivity to the request of the City of Athens Homeless Shelter to offer support to these people in need. If required, we will stand by them for any further medical needs that may arise, so as to ensure that they are all in good health. HYGEIA Group is standing at the frontline of social contribution and will continue to do so, further boosting the social responsibility initiatives it launches.”
