For the second consecutive year OTE and COSMOTE, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ilioupoli and the University of Athens, support the program “Access to the Digital World”, which is implemented for yet another year by the NGO 50+ offering the elderly the opportunity to train in computers, the Internet and touch-screen technologies.
The project entails a series of free lectures about basic computer and Internet usage, aiming to bridge the digital gap for people over the age of 50. In this context, OTE and COSMOTE provided the Center for the Protection of the Elderly, located at the Municipality of Ilioupoli, with all the necessary equipment, such as PC units, smartphones and tablets.
Access to technology which allows for communication and facilitates it, is extremely important, if not downright necessary in our time, especially for those who did not grow up with technology as part of their everyday life. All -irrespective of their age- can have equal opportunities for entertainment, communication and social networking via the New Media. And when you learn something new, you feel young!” commented Mrs Deppie Tzimea, OTE Group Corporate Communications Director during a special event commemorating the ‘students’.
“This new technology -which is also a new kind of language- besides offering information, also sharpens the mind”, stated one this year’s participants to the program, while also adding: “It fills my time, I don’t feel lonely anymore!”.
It must be noted that more than 480 ‘students’ have already come closer to technology and changed their everyday life, while more than 650 people are registered in waiting lists for their own participation the following year.
