- Active FTTC cabins reached 13,600
- Fiber to the Home is now available in the Municipality of Papagos-Holargos
More than 3 million households and businesses have access to advanced broadband services and ultrafast Internet speeds reaching 200Mbps. Thanks to the extensive investment plan of OTE Group, which amounts up to €2 billion until 2022, the COSMOTE Fiber -the largest optic fiber network in Greece- continued to grow dynamically in all over the country during 2018.
Through the year, 2,000 new FTTC cabins were included into the COSMOTE Fiber network. The commercially available FTTC cabins reached 13,600 in total. Moreover, 3,500 cabins were technologically upgraded; consequently, a total of 11,500 cabins enable speeds up to 200Mbps through VDSL Vectoring & VDSL Super Vectoring.
Furthermore, within 2018, OTE Group brought the optic fiber to customers’ homes. Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network is commercially available, offering cutting-edge technological infrastructure to access the Internet in speeds that are 100% guaranteed. Today, OTE Group has the largest Fiber to the Home coverage in the country as 22,000 households and business can already reach speeds of up to 100Mbps and 200Mbps, 100% via optic fiber. Recently, Fiber to the Home was brought to the Municipality of Papagos-Holargos.
Those who wish to enjoy unsurpassable optic fiber speeds at home, may receive a special subsidy of €360 through the Superfast Broadband action of the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media. The action is implemented with the use of a voucher, covering the fixed fee of the COSMOTE Double Play Fiberspeed program, which is €13/month for a maximum 24-month period, as well as the €48 connection fee in a single payment. Those who are interested may visit the web site www.sfbb.gr to acquire further information regarding the Superfast Broadband initiative and its availability.
High goals also for 2019
According to OTE Group’s investment plan, by the end of 2019 the FTTH coverage will include nearly 150,00 households and businesses in Attica, Thessaloniki and other major urban centers. Gradually, the FTTH coverage is expected to reach 1 million households and businesses by 2022. This optic fiber network will cover significant social facilities, such as universities, transport centers, industrial parks and public buildings.
Moreover, OTE Group’s plans for 2019 include the addition of new commercially available cabins and the upgrading of 1,600 existing ones with SuperVectoring technology. Overall, at the end of next year, COSMOTE Fiber will be spread across Greece through approximately 15,500 ultra-modern cabins to provide speeds of up to 100Mbps and 200Mbps.
The Chief Officer of Technology and Operations of ΟΤΕ Group, Mr. Stefanos Theocharopoulos stated that: “2018 is a landmark year for OTE Group for the development of the fixed network. COSMOTE Fiber, the largest fiber optic network in the country, has reached even more areas, while the Group offers the largest coverage of Fiber To The Home. Thanks to our investment plan and the excellent work of our network and IT technicians, we will continue to bring optic fiber to more households and businesses. Via the next-generation networks that we create across the country, we reduce the digital gap and offer unique communication and entertainment experiences. With technology, we make a world better for all.”
