A new concept of alternative energy sources will be presented during The Athens Summit 2009 by Dr. Seif Al Islam Al Qadhafi, son of Mohammar Qadhafi and Chair of the Gaddafi International Charity & Development Foundation (www.gdf.org.ly). The project and the associated action that will be introduced, presented, and discussed, involves the conversion of desert heat into high speed winds blowing constantly 24/7/365, to produce enough secure and sustainable carbon-free electrical power to supply the global needs of energy. Dr. Al Qadhafi’s presentation will be followed by Eng. Muftah Elarbash whose intervention will follow up more precisely on the concept and will provide answers to the audience.

The Athens Summit 2009 is organised under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic Dr. Karolos Papoulias. Sourcing and securing energy supplies and meeting climate change targets continue to be top priorities for policy makers around the world, despite the economic challenges. For the countries of Southeast Europe and Mediterranean the challenge is to put in place energy strategies which meet global sustainability objectives whilst also reflecting unique local conditions and priorities. The UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference presents an unrivalled opportunity for this region to review and refocus its activities in key areas including increasing intergovernmental cooperation in guaranteeing energy supplies, as well as in improving energy efficiency, driving investment and facilitating the speedy transition to a regional low carbon economy.

The Athens Summit 2009 hosted by FT Global Events is an unrivalled forum, bringing together senior governmental officials, corporate leaders, financiers, and energy experts from Southeast Europe and beyond to proactively prepare for and get the most from the forthcoming Copenhagen Conference.

H.E. The President of the Hellenic Republic will address the keynote Conference Opening on the morning of Tuesday, May 12, at 9.30 at the Hilton Athens. Other keynote speakers from Greece include the President of the Greek Parliament, Mr. D. Sioufas, the Leader of the opposition, Mr. G. Papandreou, the Minister for the Environment, Mr. G.
