For yet another year, COSMOTE donates a substantial amount of its New Year’s Day SMS revenues to non governmental organisations and charities providing child care
COSMOTE’s traditional "custom of love", warmly supported by its customers, was introduced in 1999, donating part of the revenues from text messaging on New Year’s Day between 00.00 and 07.00.
This year, COSMOTE supports children from Athens and the rest of Greece, donating part of its revenues to the following organisations:
- The Association of Social Paediatrics Friends "Open Arms"
- The Cerebral Palsy Society
- The Hellenic Society for Disabled Children (ELEPAP)
- The "Floga" Association of Parents with Children suffering from neoplasmatic diseases
- The "Agios Dimitrios" Children Care Centre
- The Centre for Professional Training and Rehabilitation of Preveza
In addition, for the seventh consecutive year, COSMOTE will offer the equivalent amount for corporate Christmas gifts to a children’s charity. The organisation selected for 2008, is the «Kypseli» Centre for Children with Special Needs in Lesvos island.
COSMOTE conveys the same values, principles and vision for social development across all levels, to all Group companies in SE Europe. In this context, GLOBUL, COSMOTE’s subsidiary in Bulgaria, offers for the third consecutive year the profits from the text messaging exchanged during Christmas Day to support its programme «Listen to children’s dreams», that aims at offering care and support to children in need. In 2007 over 300 children from all around the country participated in the programme.
The effectiveness of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and in particular of its actions to protect and improve quality of life for children is further validated by an important distinction: During this year’s Social Responsibility Awards, organized by the Greek Association of Advertised Companies (SDE), the company was awarded for its "Custom of love: New Year’s Day SMS" programme.
