The dreams of 36 young people from the Greek Region were supported by COSMOTE for the ninth consecutive year, through the institution of Scholarships, with Scholarships and Honorary Distinctions awards to first year University students worth a total EUR 189,000.
This year’s Scholars which came from the prefectures of Aitolokarnania, Evros, Ioannina, Kilkis, Kozani, Korinthia, Larisa, Lesvos, Halkidiki and Chania were awarded EUR 15,000 each. Additionally, 26 Honorary Distinctions worth EUR 1,500 each were awarded to candidates from the same areas for their distinct academic and extracurricular performance.
Each of the scholars this year will get a laptop with Internet on the GO and free use for a whole year, as well as COSMOTE cost control plan, along with the monthly tariff free for a year and free mobile device.
COSMOTE Scholarships for the Greek Region, for the academic year 2010-2011, took place in the presence of Mr Michael Kontogiannis, Special Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education and Olympic Champion Pyrros Dimas, COSMOTE’s Corporate Responsibility Ambassador.
During the Scholarships award ceremony, COSMOTE Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs Marilena Fatsea stated: “The nigh year of COSMOTE Scholarships finds the institution even stronger, as proven by the candidates’ response, and even closer to today’s needs and the young peoples’ dreams all over the country. Our aim every year is to evolve and provide young people with more and more opportunities for them to build the future of their dreams and contribute in their own way to the society, which needs them more than ever before.”
George Apidianakis, 3rd year student at the Medical School of Heraklion, Crete, stressed out the importance of his scholarship award by COSMOTE back in 2008, for his academic course: “COSMOTE Scholarship has given me the opportunity to hope for the much desired Medicine Degree equally to my colleagues, overcoming my family’s difficult financial condition.” The statement of this year’s Scholar from Kilkis, Giannis Kaisidis, who made his dream come true working and attending an evening school at the same time was also moving. As he said: “COSMOTE Scholarship has not only covered my financial needs but was also a moral reward that supported me psychologically in my effort.”
Since the first launch of COSMOTE Scholarships in 2002 and until today, the company has awarded 81 Scholarships and 178 Honorary Distinctions, worth over EUR 1 million, having already covered the Greek region by 150%. It is worth mentioning that this year’s applications have been submitted exclusively in electronic form, through the company’s official website.
For yet another year, through this institution, part of COSMOTE’s Corporate Responsibility programme, the company puts into practice its commitment to contribute to a better future for young people, substantially supporting the Greek Region.
