Microsoft submitted its freemail service “Windows Live Hotmail 2010” to a full inspection by TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, a member of TÜV AUSTRIA Group. Windows Live Hotmail 2010 met the high requirements of TÜV-Certification for data security, protection mechanisms and compliance. TÜV TRUST IT GmbH developed a statement of requirements titled “Trusted Internet Application” to specificially offer users guidance. Instead of the application being at the focal point of the inspection, TÜV TRUST IT GmbH analyses which procedures and processes implemented by the developer ensure that the service concerned offers a high degree of security and removes weaknesses quickly. “Hotmail has convinced us”, says Detlev Henze, general manager of TÜV TRUST IT GmbH. “In comparison to the previous version, Windows Live Hotmail 2010 features significant improvement in the area of security and protection mechanisms.
Safe emailing with Windows Live Hotmail
Hotmail meets all requirements of the statement drafted by TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, both regarding the technical implementation of attack protection as well as organisational measures of security level protection and its continuous increase. A series of new functions represents a new and substantial addition to and improvement over the previous edition. Significant improvements include SSL encryption, which can now be used throughout the application. Dorothee Ritz, General Manager Consumer & Online at Microsoft Germany states: “We are very proud that such a renowned institution in the area of technical safety and security like TÜV TRUST IT GmbH tested and certified our freemail service Hotmail.”
