OTE and CΟSMOTE, in the framework of their respective corporate responsibility programmes, sponsored the organisation of the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011, thus demonstrating, in practice, their sensitivity. This was another way to contribute to the essential improvement of the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Aiming at the best organisation of the Games, OTE and COSMOTE guaranteed the provision of all telecommunication services, required prior to and during the Games. In particular, they covered the Games’ needs for:
- Data transmission services
- Audio and video transmission services
- Mobile telephony services
- As of spring 2010, we commenced the implementation of that important project, thus contributing to the success of the Games’ test events.
For all of us in OTE and COSMOTE, this global celebration of will power was yet another opportunity to:
- prove our respect regarding the diversity of people with intellectual disabilities
- contribute to the promotion of sportsmanship
- promote the idea of volunteerism, especially amongst all our employees, through the development of a special corporate programme on volunteer work for the Games.
OTE Volunteer Programme for the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011
Demonstrating its lasting and continuous contribution towards the promotion of sportsmanship, through its integrated corporate responsibility programme, OTE supported the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011 by creating a special corporate programme for employee voluntary participation in the conduct of the Games.
The programme aimed at the understanding and acceptance of intellectual disability, as well as the promotion of the idea of volunteerism!
The official OTE Volunteers’ Team, comprising of 150 Group employees, contributed to the successful completion of the Games by offering their volunteer work, when and wherever needed.
The kick-off meeting was held at the OTE Headquarters, in the presence of the ATHENS 2011 Volunteer Programme people, including the President of the Organising Committee. Our very own athletes also took part, who are members of the Association of OTE Employees & Pensioners with children who face special problems, which Association our company has been supporting for over a decade. Our special athletes participated in the Games.
All the OTE volunteers “from the heart”, adopting the Games motto “I AM IN”, declared their decisiveness to contribute towards spreading the message of acceptance of intellectual disability, while at the same time promoting the idea of volunteerism across the Greek society!
OTE facilitated its volunteers by granting them a special three-day leave during the Games, while the remaining 5 days were offered by the volunteers themselves from their personal time.
This summer, all of us in OTE, who volunteered for the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011, experienced a unique journey, where both Athletes and Volunteers were all winners!
So, our journey has now come to an end, but all memories are treasured deep in our hearts forever!
and our motto…
…”We, the OTE and COSMOTE people, SUPPORT THE SPIRIT OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD SUMMER GAMES ATHENS 2011, because we strongly believe that all participating Athletes are winners!”
…is now a motto in our everyday life, especially towards all people with intellectual disabilities!
