“Do not give out personal information to people you have met online. Do not accept ‘friends’ requests in social media with people you do not know and do not arrange to meet them in person.”

These are some of the rules for kids which have been shared by OTE and COSMOTE with 65,000 parents and children in 2013, through awareness actions for the safe use of the Internet and the mobile phones, held in cooperation with acclaimed and recognised institutions.

The findings derived from the awareness actions and initiatives run in 2013 by the two companies with regard to the safe use of the Internet and the mobile phones are of particular importance:

  • They support the operation of the Helpline titled “YpoSTIRIZO (Support) 800 11 800 15” which informs adolescents and their families on the use of new technologies. The helpline received approximately 2,000 relevant requests, 37% of which were related to the excessive use of the Internet and 15% to cyber bullying
  • Visits to over 80 schools nationwide were paid in collaboration with the Adolescent Health Unit (A.H.U.) of the B’ Pediatrics Clinic “Aglaia Kyriakou” of the University of Athens
  • More than 1,200 people attended the informational event held at The Mall Athens, in the context of the Safe Internet Day 2013, in collaboration with the Adolescent Health Unit (A.H.U.)
  • With the support of OTE and COSMOTE, the Cyber Crime Unit held 51 awareness sessions across Greece, engaging about 17,000 people, while 40,000 watched them via live streaming
  • More than 4,000 parents and children were informed about the safe use of the Internet and the mobile phones, through informative printed flyers disseminated of OTE and COSMOTE
  • With the support of OTE and COSMOTE, a nationwide survey entitled “Safe Internet Navigation and Social Networking Program” was conducted in the Armed Forces, undertaken by the Hellenic Association for the Study of Internet Addiction Disorder.

On the occasion of the Safe Internet Day 2014, ΟΤΕ and COSMOTE at OTE’s Telecommunications museum:

Will held informational sessions, on February 21 & 28, targeted at school communities. As part of the free monthly sessions, experts of the Adolescent Health Unit (A.H.U.) of the B’ Pediatrics Clinic “Aglaia Kyriakou” of the University of Athens will advise children on facing the challenges of the digital world and will analyse the cyber bullying. More than 350 schoolchildren attended these informational sessions on internet security in 2013.

On February 8 the educational theatrical play “The Internet Farm” was presented, which educates children aged 4-12 years on safe online navigation through the stories of the little heroes of the farm. The play takes place every month at the OTE Telecommunications Museum and the admission is free. More than 340 parents and children and 400 students attended the show last year.

Additionally, for the third consecutive year, OTE and COSMOTE jointly supported the Safe Navigation Conference, organised by the Cyber Crime Unit, on the occasion of the Safe Internet Day, which was held on February 6.
