The modernisation of the Electricity Distribution Network for the provision of better quality services to customers — consumers, suppliers and producers — constitutes a priority for HEDNO’s Administration, as underlined by the Chairman and CEO, Mr. Georgios Kollias, in his intervention during the “2nd Conference on Smart Grids” realised in Athens, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

The Conference, which was organised by HEDNO and NTUA (National Technical University of Athens), was attended by more than 100 executives from all over Greece, while professors and researchers from the Division of Electric Power of NTUA School of Electrical and Computer Engineering participated within the framework of the equivalent cooperation which implements efficiently the link between businesses and research activity in universities.

In the Conference, the following issues were presented:

  • Developments in European level and Technological Challenges
  • Applications of Innovative Technologies in the Distribution Network
  • HEDNO’s Participation in European Research Projects

It is pointed out that HEDNO participates as a partner in 5 research and innovation projects (IGREENGrid, Sustainable, SiNGULAR, SmartKYE , Dream), co-funded by EU Seventh Framework Programme in which Distribution Operators, equipment suppliers, IT and telecommunication companies as well as universities and research institutions, are collaborating so as to promote innovation in smart grids aiming at the increase of penetration in renewable energy sources into distribution networks, as well as their best management. Nowadays, HEDNO is looking for equivalent cooperation, so as to participate in the successor EU programme, HORIZON 2020 for the period 2014-2020.
