European electricity distribution system operators upgrade their role

European Electricity Distribution System Operators are playing a leading rolenowadays in Europe for the achievement of the goal on climate change, as it was pointed out by Mr. Georgios Kollias, HEDNO’s Chairman and CEO, within the framework of EDSO’s General Meeting and Board of Directors’ meeting held in Athens.

The European Distribution System Operator’s Association (EDSO http://www.edsoforsmartgrids.eu/) gathers 33 members among which Europe’s major Distribution System Operators and promotes the cooperation between its members for the complete development of Smart Grids.

EDSO’s Chairman Mr. Joao Torres, CEO of the Portuguese EDP Distribuicao, as well as the Association’s Vice Chairmen Mr. Livio Gallo, CEO of the Italian Enel Distribuzione, Mr. Javier Villalba, CEO of the Spanish Ιberdrola Disttribucion and Mr. Christian Buchel, Deputy CEO of the French ΕRDF, participated among others in the meetings that were realized on Friday 20th of June in Athens.

The meeting of EDSO’s Projects Committee, with the main task to promote Research and Innovation as well as financing investments in Smart Grids, was also held on Friday 19th of June.

Mr. Kollias pointed out: “It is very important that our country has hosted these meetings in a period during which the new EU energy policy is formed for 2030, defining ambitious goals for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and increased penetration of RES”.

Mr. Georgios Kollias is a member of   EDSO’s Board of Directors since March 2014, while HEDNO is a member of the Association from 2012.
