HEDNO embarks on a cooperation with the Region of Attica to implement the pilot project of installation of 120 charging stations for electrical vehicles in selected public areas in Attica.
More specifically, during the recent meeting that HEDNO Chairman and CEO, Mr. Ν. Chatziargyriou, had with Regional Vice-Governor for North Athens regional unit, Mr. G. Karameros, it was agreed that the Region of Attica, HEDNO and the National Technical University of Athens will jointly conduct a study in order to define the locations where the HEDNO should install the charging stations. Conclusions of the study will enable the planning of the overall strategy of deployment of public infrastructure for electrical vehicles charging stations.
As Mr. Chatziargyriou pointed out, “Our cooperation with the Region of Attica holds particular importance because HEDNO intends to engage actively in the building of charging infrastructure for electrical vehicles. The project of electrification in transport, which is underway, introduces new additional flexible load in the electricity Network. Gradual increase of electrical vehicle penetration in our country will have an impact on the operation and management of electricity distribution networks, which makes active engagement of the Distribution Network Operator an imperative as regards the design and installation of EV charging stations. HEDNO has always been encouraging new, greener technologies, therefore we will offer our substantial support to all respective initiatives that intend to help raise electromobility rates in Greece“.
On his part, Mr. Karameros stated: “Cooperating with HEDNO is the first real step towards promoting the use of clean vehicles. With the assistance by responsible bodies in the matter, such as HEDNO, we are going to set a total of 120 charging stations for electrical vehicles across Attica – against the initial planning for only 30 stations. We are bringing innovation to the ways we handle environmental protection issues and we will very soon seek to engage more bodies and authorities in the initiative undertaken by HEDNO and the Region of Attica.”
