Τhe 4th International Conference of the European Anti-Bullying Network (EAN) will be held in Città di Castello on 22 September 2017 and will be hosted by the EAN member from Italy, Centro Studi Villa Montesca.

The event will bring together EAN member organizations, public officials and institutional actors from Italy, the academia, members of the European Parliament and representatives of local and regional authorities as well as professionals active in the field of child protection and children’s rights.

The aim of the conference is to explore new forms of bullying outside the school classrooms from cyberbullying to hate speech, existing tools of prevention and intervention, anti-bullying programs, legal instruments and measures as well as showcase its dire consequences for children and the youth and the need for a common strategy and response on a European scale.

Top priority of the network is to empower school communities through the development of a certification anti-bullying tool. The initiative will be announced during the conference and aims to offer to all actors involved in the phenomenon the necessary tools to deal with the problem within the school environment.

Keynote speaker of the conference will be Prof. Peter K. Smith, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of London and Honorary Member of the Board of Directors of the Network who will present the cross-national differences in bullying and tools of measurement and analysis.

A series of thematic topics on the non-traditional new forms of bullying and school violence will be presented and discussed among the participants of the conference. They will focus primarily on various aspects of these forms, legal and judicial instruments, tools of prevention and intervention as well as the need for common certified procedures in schools.

The EAN conference will be preceded the day before (21 September 2017) by EAN’s Board of Directors and General Assembly meetings.

EAN was established in 2014 as a result of the respective EU-funded (Daphne III) project and was officially registered in Brussels in March 2015, while today it already comprises 19 members from 15 EU Member States (Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Sweden and UK).

The Presidency of the European Anti-bullying Network is held by the Greek NGO “The Smile of the Child”.

Among the main objectives of the network is to coordinate anti-bullying actions on the European level, campaign for a common European strategy on the phenomenon and raise awareness among the general public, children, parents and teachers.
