EuroCharity supports on-line ‘I help Greece’ (ihelp.gr) initiative

73 human lives and 2,5 million square meters of land turned to ashes are the casualties of this summer’s 6.000 fires.

– The fires in the Peloponnese and on Evia have caused 63 deaths and a great deal of injuries, while the number of missing people still remains unknown.
– 1.5 million square metres of land have been burnt in the Peloponnese alone, according to conservative estimations, while hundreds of houses have been burnt to the ground and local economies have collapsed.
– Previous fires in Ahaia, Rethymnon, Larisa and Evia resulted to 10 deaths.
– Massive fires in Parnitha, Grammos, and Egialia have burnt a hundred thousand square metres of agricultural and forest land. Pilio, Crete, Skiathos, Kefallonia, Korinthia, Pieria, Kozani, Fthiotida and Kilkis have also been affected by — and severely suffered from — fires.

We should not remain simply spectators of the disaster!

The victims need hands-on solidarity from everyone.

“I help Greece” (http://www.ihelp.gr/Default.aspx) is an initiative aiming at mobilizing the public both in Greece and abroad to collect money that will be given to the afflicted citizens in the fire-stricken regions. Any contribution made by each of us is valuable, irrespective of the nature or amount of financial support we offer.

Any natural or legal entity desiring to contribute may do so via this Web page by depositing a monetary donation via their credit card. The money is then wired, in collaboration with Eurobank EFG and without any transaction fees or other commission charges, to the special account of Greece’s Aid Fund for the fire-stricken areas that has been set up by the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance.

EuroCharity is one of the Communication Supporters (http://www.ihelp.gr/supporters.aspx) of the “I help Greece” initiative, while www.ihelp.gr will accept donations until October 31, 2007.
