TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS has inspected the Hazardous Medical Waste Incineration Plant of Association of Municipalities in the Attica Region (Athens capital prefecture) – Solid Waste Management (E.D.S.N.A.) TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, as independent inspection and certification body and leader in expertise and technical competence in waste incineration and management units, carried out the inspection and evaluation of the Hazardous Medical Waste Incineration Plant (E.A.Y.M.) belonging to the Association of Municipalities in the Attica Region – Solid Waste Management (E.D.S.N.A.). This assessment is the first made for incineration plants in Greece contributing significantly to the effort of the optimal management of hazardous medical waste and the protection of the environment and public health.
Following a call for expressions of interest, TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, as contractor, undertook the inspection of the organization regarding the entire system’s operation and the fulfillment of contractual obligations to the E.D.S.N.A. and the existing infrastructure. Specifically, thorough spot checks, inspections and evaluation of the following points were performed: Weighing & Gate of Radioactive Units, Temporary Storage Unit & Conveyor Belts, Combustion & Exhaust Units, Building Facilities & Other Areas, Electrical Installations, Fire Protection Installations, Maintenance Program Unit, Performance Measurement Unit, Compliance of installation and operation with the Environmental Terms Approval Decision (ETAD) and National Legislation. Also, TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS carried out a detailed assessment of all the relevant documentation to substantiate the compliance of the installation with the technical and environmental requirements.
The inspections, conducted by experienced and qualified inspectors of TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, was completed with the delivery of an integrated assessment and inspection report to the owner of the project.
