Further to the two successful past ShipIT conferences (www.shipit.gr), netweek magazine and the Association of Maritime Managers for Information Technology and Communications (AMMITEC) present the 3rd ShipIT Conference, taking place in Athens (Benaki Museum Amphitheatre), on September 27th 2017.

The Scope of the Conference

The 3rd ShipIT Conference brings together a broad spectrum of business and IT executives, with the objective to:

• Leverage digital and disruptive technologies to answer to the new needs of the shipping industry
• Connect key leaders from maritime, technology development and innovation
• Present and assess the importance of ICT in creating best practices, innovative approaches, unique business models and tools to harness business opportunities
• Evaluate the challenges, questions and advances ICT technology addresses to the shipping industry
• Stay ahead of the innovation curve, with the digitalization of the maritime sector
• Address business issues rather than technical ones, as it is bringing shipping business leaders together with CIOs to explore the digital maritime business case

Meet the speakers:

Opening Keynote Speaker

Anastasios V. Papagiannopoulos, President of BIMCO, CEO of Common Progress
Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been a principal of Common Progress since its establishment in 1984 and has more than 37 years of experience in shipping. Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been elected since 1996 on the Board of Directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners and since 2006 in the Executive Committee of the Union including Committee Chairman of the Seaman’s Social Security and Labour Issues. He is currently President of Bimco and an elected member of the Executive Committee where he had served since 1998 as an elected member of the Documentary Committee. Since 2004 he has also been an elected member in the Greek Committee of Det Norske Veritas (D.N.V.). Mr. Papagiannopoulos has been elected (2006) in the Executive Committee of International Chamber of Shipping, (I.C.S.). Mr. Papagiannopoulos holds a BA in Law from the National University of Athens, an MSc in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London, an MA in European Integration from University of Reading and a PhD in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London.

International Keynote Speakers

James Baker, Editor, Lloyd’s List Containers Maritime intelligence
James Baker has been reporting on business and shipping for ove r 20 years. After eight years as news editor at leading shipping publication Lloyd’s List, he has now taken the helm at sister publication Lloyd’s List Containers, where he covers the global liner, ports and logistics industries. He has previously covered IT and telecommunications for national newspapers and online publications.

Phil Tinsley, Manager, Maritime Security, BIMCO
Prior to pursuing a career in maritime security, Phil was an officer in the Royal Marine Commandos, attaining the rank of Major after 31 years military service. His military career included littoral operations on a global scale, warfighting and specialization in cold weather warfare. Since leaving in 2010, Phil has managed offshore security in the Indian Ocean High Risk Area in support of seismic operations, which included 2 Somali pirate attacks at sea. He went on to establish and coordinate anti-piracy transit operations for a respected PMSC based in Dubai. Phil has a thorough understanding of port operations, personnel training requirements, compliance and management systems. Phil joined BIMCO in 2015 and his primary role is to assist members with all aspects of maritime security; including piracy, drug smuggling, stowaways, mixed mass migration and cyber security. Currently based in Denmark near BIMCO House, Phil maintains his hobby as a cyclist and is always happy to take any queries members may have on any relevant maritime issue.
