TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas: ‘OK Recycled’ – New Certification Scheme

Consumers and professional buyers are informed and affected by environmental claims, logos and statements of producers regarding the environmental properties of products. Organizations that focus on enviromenmental issues strengthen the position of the circular economy in society. TÜV AUSTRIA presents the new OK Recycled Scheme to promote environmentally friendly consumption.
Suppliers, producers and traders are trying to meet the growing market demand for environmentally friendly products. Strict EU environmental legislation and consumer awareness are factors that reinforce concerns about the environmental impact of products.

OK Recycled, TÜV AUSTRIA certification scheme, addresses the issues raised in the EU Directive 2019/904 on the limitation of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment. From 2025, “PET” bottles below 3 liters must contain at least 25% recycled plastic, and from 2030 all plastic bottles must consist of at least 30% recycled plastic. The goal of the OK Recycled Scheme is to encourage the use of environmentally friendly plastic materials and provide reliability to environmental claims by promoting products in an environmentally consious market.

The OK Recycled Scheme sets out the requirements for calculating the recycled content of products. The framework for the Certification Scheme is determined by the requirements of EN 15343 and ISO 14021.

OK Recycled can apply throughout the Supply Chain of recycled plastic before the final products reach the final consumers.

The Scheme OK Recycled is based on mass balance control, and the traceability of recycled materials, so it can be applied to verify the recycled content on all materials (such as plastics, aluminum, fabric and paper).

It provides reliability and objectivity regarding the recycled content through easily identifiable and readily available information. Therefore, the CERTIFICATION MARK OK Recycled of TÜV AUSTRIA increases the value of the brand and consumer confidence.

The TÜV AUSTRIA OK Recycled Scheme:

• addresses the issues raised in Directive EU 2019/904.
• meets the requirements of producers and the expectations of customers.
• upgrades the environmental profile of organizations
• differentiates products from the competition through certification by an independent third party.
• promotes brand value for their customers.
• meets consumer demand for greater transparency.
